Valentina A. Aksenova

Valentina A. Aksenova is Chief Non-Resident Pediatric Phthisiologist of the Russian Ministry of Health.
She was born in Mytischi, Moscow Region. In 1980 she graduated from Second Moscow Medical Institute as a pediatrician and was assigned to Children and Adolescents Department of Moscow Tuberculosis Research Institute.
In 1987 she defended her Candidate's Thesis on Complicated Forms of Tuberculosis in Children. In 1993 she defended her Doctor's Thesis on Specific Prevention of Tuberculosis in Children and Adolescents. In 1995 she was awarded the Professor's title.

Since 1991 Dr. Aksenova has been Pediatric Phthisiologist of the Russian Ministry of Health and Social Development, and in 1995 she founded Federal Center of Complications Caused by BCG and BCG-M by the Russian Ministry of Health, and she has been the Head of this Center till present.
Upon the invitation of TB Europe Coalition she participated in the meetings and made presentations on tuberculosis control. Many times she participated in the meetings and conferences of WHO, TB Europe Coalition and other organisations involved into tuberculosis control (France, Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Estonia, Canada, Russia). She is a member of WHO Working group on tuberculosis in children and co-author of Guidance for national tuberculosis programmes on the management of tuberculosis in children.
In 1998 she was elected to the Professor's position of Pulmonology Department of Post-Graduate Training Faculty by I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy. Since 2001 Dr. Aksenova has been representing the Eastern Europe as a member of WHO Working Group for tuberculosis in children.
In parallel with her main research and clinical activity in 1994 Dr. Aksenova accomplished distant training in the Financial Academy by the Russian Government, specializing in the financial strategy of the company. In 1995 she specialized in tuberculosis control the University of Wales (Cardiff, United Kingdom).
She was a head of the group of young researchers of the institute and a head of the institute trade union, and since 1998 she has been the Executive Secretary of Russian Phthisiologists' Society.
She was awarded with Medal by the Russian Ministry of Health: Order of Merit for the Russian Healthcare; Medal of Excellent Worker of Public Health, Excellent Worker of Public Health in Yakutia Republic (Sakha); Medal of the 850 Anniversary of Moscow. In 1997 Russian Ministry of Health issued the edict expressing particular gratitude to Dr. Aksenova. She has been included into the list of the best female doctors of the year in Russia. She has the title of Honoured Researcher of Science and Education of the Russian Academy of Natural History, Founder of Scientific School, member of Internet Encyclopedia on Researchers of Russia.
She has more than 400 publications, of them 30 were in foreign scientific journals, 5 patents, more than 20 monographs, 6 research grants (LOTs). She was an academic advisor for 33 candidate's and doctor's theses.
